Bags + Camera Gear

They’ve been getting a lot of use—switching around camera gear and organizing the pack—but still, we’re shocked. It’s never a good sign to see this much wear and tear after such a short testing period. We’ll make sure to keep you updated in the Usage Timeline below. Finally, there’s one pocket on the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2) that’s so sneaky we almost forgot to write about it.

Straps

If you’re an organization nerd, you’re going to love these things. They’re great for travel—specifically travel with a camera kit—but they work for your everyday carry needs as well. The laptop compartment sits at the back of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2) and features a pretty slick adjustable laptop sleeve—it’s like a laptop hammock. You can reposition the height of the sleeve to fit different size laptops.

The lunch compartment or the curb part is smaller than the wandrd. I can place my dslr or milc with battery grip easier in the peak side. For lenses if you open the back Wandrd has better compartment. I have all of the AW ProTactic II bags, the only one I don't really care for is the Messenger bag; too bulky and doesn't carry as much as advertised. But for urban areas, they look too much like a camera bag/backpack.

There is a small sleeve for random essentials, a slightly larger sleeve that is perfect for a tablet or notebook, and the main sleeve for a laptop. The 20L pack fits a 15” laptop easily, and the 30L will fit a 17” laptop. The pack comes with three padded dividers that will be essential for photographers, and super convenient for everyone else. They also look like ninja turtle shells—which is how we like to refer to them. Anyway, the ninja turtle shell dividers strap to the inside of the main compartment, creating shelves. If you are accessing the pack from the top, this isn’t very useful.

The smaller sibling of our iconic 45L Travel Backpack, the 30L is a rugged, expandable daypack ideal for shorter travel and everyday carry because No Two Trips The Same™. A big, beautiful rear hatch provides total access for easy packing and unpacking. An enlarged top pocket is subdivided with stretch and zip pockets for keys, glasses, passport, etc. The weatherproof #10 UltraZip can withstand decades of use thanks to its proprietary abrasion-resistant thread. Meets international carry-on size requirements in expanded (33L) and compressed (27L) form.

If you’ve read my other articles about Peak Design products, you’ll very well know that I have grown quite fond of the brand and the products that they release. I personally feel justified in purchasing the V2 after having used the Everyday Backpack V1 for quite some time on my everyday commute and on most of my holidays. Opening up both sides helps rearrange and pack things easily, and the top lid opens nice and wide for easy reach. The FlexFold dividers are easily removable and adjustable and Peak Design have now stitched a vertical guide inside the bag so you can align them properly and with ease.

When the bag is really full, the sides will stick out a bit from the flap—meaning there is a potential for rain to get in. Sure, the bag is made of weatherproof material, but that doesn’t do much good if part of the main compartment is exposed. We’re pretty sure they made up a few words in there. But we can attest to the fact that the whole bag is made of weatherproof material, along with the zippers. And everything else on the bag feels really great—from the metal buckles to the soft interior fabric. If you want a compact camera that produces great quality photos without the hassle of changing lenses, there are plenty of choices available for every budget.

Ultralight quick-connecting wrist strap for on-demand security. Waterproof, packable rain cover for the Travel Backpack 45L. A pack that adapts to your ever-changing gear, lifestyle, and environment. I’ve just concluded my first overseas trip with the Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 and I have to say, it definitely served me extremely well throughout the whole adventure.

Travel Backpack 30L New

OM Digital Solutions has updated its flagship high speed camera just two years after launch. The latest version includes more memory and some performance and handling tweaks. The fourth camera in Leica's SL series of full-frame mirrorless cameras sees the 60MP BSI sensor from the Q3 and M11 models arrive with a significant interface redesign. Eventually settled on a Kajka 35, as I really wanted a front opening bag that didn't have elastic panels as the terrain down here is so prone to ripping them.

This price point gives you access to some of the most all-round capable cameras available. Excellent image quality, powerful autofocus and great looking video are the least you can expect. I'm personally not entirely sold on the tensioned mesh panel - I do have an Atmos 50 which has such a system, and for less dense stuff like normal hiking stuff it works great. For dense loads, I reckon it's too offset from my back and feels awkward. I had a Lowepro backpack that had an amazing harness and belt, but it was much taller than the Peak too.

I understand that there's a lot of R&D, and customer support creating overhead. I kickstarted Peter's first Capture because it was exactly what I wanted. Then begged them to make a part that could facilitate belt to tripod use.

When it comes right down to it, Peak Design intentionally sacrifices wearing comfort for looks. Through 3 iterations that compromise has remained essentially unchanged. A major design flaw of this bag is its use of double opening zippers.
